Manteinance and Assistance

25/02/2022

At Cycling the Camino we have a team and collaborators who ensure that the bicycle pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela is peaceful and that our pilgrims focus their energies on the daily effort of pedalling. Our bicycles are always delivered prepared and in the best possible conditions, without losing sight of the fact that they are rental bicycles and there can always be some type of aesthetic deterioration, not mechanical. We work with official Shimano service and with other top-level brands such as Suntour, Sram or Continental.

But we bear in mind that this is the Camino de Santiago, and although we always pay 100% attention to the mechanics and set-up of the bicycles, many other factors come into play such as transport, daily use of the bicycle without a correct maintenance of cleaning and greasing, that on the Camino there are stones or sticks, and even a hypothetical fall that can damage the mechanics.

To minimize all these inconveniences we ask a question in the reservation process that suggests the question: I AM A CYCLIST. What does this mean? Basically, we are asking if you have knowledge as a regular cyclist beyond changing a puncture. For example, do you know how to properly clean and lubricate a bicycle after the day? Or would you know how to repair a broken chain in the middle of the Camino? If so, we'll send a special multipurpose for links and a link, also oil.

You must bear in mind that the average route time is about 7 days and, depending on the conditions of the Camino, the bicycles will need more or less maintenance. The truth is that so that nothing fails it should be daily, but we understand that we cannot ask this of pilgrims who come to enjoy with bicycles that are not theirs. The photo that we see heading this blog is real, it is of a pilgrim from Cycling the Camino with her bicycle. It is logical to think that after a day like this it is essential to clean and grease.

But going further, we know that 80% of our pilgrims are not cyclists and for this reason we offer you an optional Roadside Assistance service. Actually there are 2 different types: One of "Basic Assistance" that includes a transfer to the workshop from the point of failure, to one of "Total Assistance" that in addition to the transfer includes the cost of repairs and, if there is no solution, bike change before 1:30pm the next day. These are the coverages:
